What is What am I to do?

For a while, I have been debating about starting this blog. I wasn’t sure whether it would be worthwhile and I was worried about the comments I might get from people.

But it got to the point where I was like fuck it. I might as well give it a go and who knows it might turn out to be something really cool.

There are three things that I want this blog to focus on. These are important to me and I think relatable to a lot of people my age.

They are:

  • Self Improvement
  • Navigating your twenties
  • Sport

Let me break down for you why I want to write about them.

Self Improvement:

What self improvement is today i think is quite blurred. If you were to look at all the gurus online it you’d probably think you have to have an online business selling some sort of bs course to be on the self improvement grind. Don’t get me wrong having your own business is definintely one aspect of it.

But to me self improvement is a lot more than that, and it doesn’t have to be taking on a mamooth project or making a drastic life change. It can start small, it can simply be reading 10 pages a day on a skill/topic you want to learn more about. It can be going out for a morning walk instead doom scrolling on social media. Or it can be choosing to go for a coffee with a friend in the morning rather than going out and getting obliterated in the evening (I don’t think drink in moderation is a bad thing).

For me self improvement is about taking the little steps that move you towards being the best version of yourself.

As someone who has been on a self improvement journey over the past couple years, I want to share my experiences and dissect the habits that are thrown around on social media.

Navigating your twenties:

It seems like everyone tells you that your twenties are the best time of your life. I’m sure for some people that is the case. But actually, it’s a time full of a lot of uncertainty. It’s the first time in your life that you have to figure it out on your own, the career path you follow, the friends you see and the financial decisions you make. It’s also the first time that people your age start to do things at a different pace. Some people are buying houses with their partners, others still at home with their parents or some who are living it up in a houseshare with mates.

Every decision and path in your life up until your twenties has a kind of structure to follow. Primary school, secondary school, university and then all of a sudden this structure ends. Sure, getting a job is the obvious next step. It’s this decision that really sets the course of your life, and unfortunately you don’t get any practice at this. But for the first time in life it’s a complete free for all.

Once you get into this chapter you start getting all these thoughts. Should i just fuck it all off and go travelling? Do I actually enjoy what I do? Is this how I want to spend my life? Shall i just go and start my own business?

All are valid questions to be asking yourself. But which is the best path for you?

I’m going to share my experiences of navigating this as well as talking about what I observe in others.

Sport:

Finally, growing up sport has always been a huge part of my life. As a kid i played every sport under the sun. Tennis 4 times a week until i was 14 alongside football and cricket. At secondary school rugby became where I put all my attention. I stopped playing for a bit and took up American football before then taking it back up and making my university 1st XV. Since then I’ve left team sports behind, at least for now, and taken on some individual sporting challenges. That started off as running a marathon and quickly i got the bug and have now completed an Ironman 70.3, 100 mile bike race and multiple hyroxes.

Sport has been something I could talk endlessly about and I’ve always found I’ve had this ability to recall sporting facts and stats better than anything else. If only I had the same recall about my studies at school.

I’m going to share with you my opinions on sports that I’m interested, the big moments, the ones I reccomend playing and just about anything sport to do with it.

Now these may seem unrelated somewhat. But for one they are things I spend a lot of time pursuing.
